Fr. Mark Mertes, Pastor
Fr. Mark Mertes has been the pastor at Our Lady and Saint Rose, Blessed Sacrament and Christ the King since 2010. He was born to Tom and Mary Mertes in Chicago, Illinois. The Mertes family grew up in Prairie Village, Ks, and Mark attended parochial school at the Church of St. Ann. Mark attended Rockhurst High School and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Business with a Degree in Business Administration in 1978. After an 18 month tour in the Peace Corps in the Yemen Arab Republic, Mark worked for the J. C. Penney Company as a management trainee. Subsequently, Mark entered St. Meinrad School of Theology from which he received a Masters in Divinity in 1987.
Since his ordination, Fr. Mark has served as associate pastor at Holy Spirit Church in Overland Park, Ks, and at the Cathedral of St. Peter, where he also served as chaplain of Bishop Ward High School. Fr. Mark served as pastor of St. Joseph Church in Olpe, Ks, and St. Mary Church in Hartford, Ks, and Church of the Holy Cross in Overland Park before being assigned as pastor of Our Lady and St. Rose, Blessed Sacrament and Christ the King. Fr. Mark also serves as the archdiocesan liason to the Charismatic Renewal. In August 2008 he was discerned for a 3 year term as the National Responsible for Jesus Caritas Fraternity of Priests.
